Analysis
The task is an OSINT challenge requiring research into biographical facts about Elon Musk from the early period of his career (mid-1990s). Key clues:
- Time period: before founding his first company (Zip2 was founded in 1995).
- Event: an attempt to get a job at a well-known company.
- Detail: he wasn't hired (or he didn't dare to speak up).
Solution
Step 1: Finding the Company
Using search queries like Elon Musk first job application 1995 or Elon Musk Netscape story, we find a widely known story.
In 1995, Elon Musk wanted to work at Netscape Communications, which at the time was the market leader in web browsers. He sent them his resume but never received a response.
Step 2: Incident Details
According to Musk's biography (by Ashlee Vance) and his own interviews, he even went to the Netscape office. He sat in the lobby but was too shy to talk to any of the employees and left.
Step 3: Determining the Location
We need to find where Netscape Communications headquarters was located in 1995.
Searching Netscape Communications headquarters 1995 or checking the Wikipedia article shows that the company was based in Mountain View, California.
The address at that time: 501 E. Middlefield Road, Mountain View, CA.
Step 4: Forming the Flag
According to the format CODEBY{city}, we get CODEBY{REDACTED}.
